Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez!

Being part Cajun, we couldn't let the opportunity go by without sharing some incredibly cute "Let the Good Times Roll" Mardi Gras party tips, just in time for you last-minute party planners. The celebrations have begun and will culminate this week through next Tuesday, FAT Tuesday, March 8th....so yes, you still have time to purchase a few more goodies in time for this weekend when its time to 'throw me somethin' Mr!!!!! You can't really do Mardi Gras without the following must-haves and in the spirit of Cajun Country we thought we'd oblige you....
  • beads, beads, and more beads
  • feathers
  • dabloons
  • anything purple, green, and gold
  • king cake
  • great food
  • great music
  • festive beverages (and yes, non-alcoholic is just fine!)
Phyllis Hoffman with Celebrations created a fabulous spread in her Celebrate Winter 2010 mag and we love every bit of it! She shares incredibly creative ways to infuse the rich Mardi Gras (purple, green, and gold) color scheme without breaking your bank! Yes, it's really just that simple! Not only does she feature a great recipe for her Big Easy King Cake (which is a must-have for anything Cajun), but she also even shows how to whip up a festive floral arrangement out of a couple of party hats, party horns, and fleurs from your corner market. This idea can truly be extended for any other upcoming holiday as well...beit St. Patty's Day or even the 4th of July! The opportunities are endless....you've just gotta be creative and ready to "Let the Good Times Roll!"

The Opportunities are endless....if you're creative!

Let's face it. Money truly does not grow on trees, and despite the fact that a lot of us would LOVE to have a dream wedding/extravaganza designed by Preston Bailey or Colin Cowie, its just not gonna happen. Maybe you'd love to spend $8K on an Amsale ceremony gown:

or $1K on this vintage Justin Alexander number:

there are these things we call budgets that limit us....FOR A REASON!
So this post is about making the most of what you've got without breaking the bank!So you'd like to have a reception but can't quite afford to feed scrumptious meals to all of your guests?

NEWSFLASH: Your guests will be ok, if you forego the filet mignon on YOUR big day. After all, in most cases, you probably won't find the time to enjoy it yourself!

A perfectly viable option is to just have a simple cake and punch eh-hem, 'decadent dessert' reception that will allow you to focus on a beautiful display of tasty treats sure to appease any guests.

Two side notes, though: this option is most viable between mealtimes and best indicated on your invitation as simply a "dessert reception following ceremony"

Your treats could include an extensive assortment of rich desserts such as cheese cakes, tarts, tortes, cookies, pies, cakes, pastries, cobblers, biscotti, ice cream, cotton candy, sundaes, and candies could be delectably displayed and ready for guests to partake. The key is to be consistent in containers and color scheme and your guests will think they've entered their favorite candy shop!

Another healthier and still viable option is to have a simple veggie bar. We've showcased Esther Kim's work....but it is simply too beautifully creative not to share again! She took a few notes from THE Amy Atlas and voila!

The difference is in the details...if you're only able to think creatively!

Ultimately, if you still feel as though you're shorting your guests, you could always have a more intimate gathering at a local restaurant and foot the bill for a much smaller and close-knit group of friends....

Most importantly, you'll be happier after you say I DO, because you'll have a few pennies left after all of the fun...and you can take THAT to the bank!

Happy planning and staying-in-budgeting!

B is for Bella...

...a beautiful baby, whom we have yet to see, but if her nature is anything like her parents, she is sure to be God's grace personified (as her reversible burpie says below).

To welcome the newest member of our Blessed Beginnings extended family, we thought we'd share with you our last addition to our product line, our "Bella" custom frame. Look closely, it showcases her name AND the special meanings that made her parents fall in love with it!
Arabella - /air-ah-BELL-ah/ - beautiful grace, answered prayer

What princess wouldn't love this?!

It's totally customizable, like our bibs and burpies, and that cashmere bling just OOZES beauty! Dontcha think?

Maybe if we're all fortunate, we'll get to share a pic of little Miss Arabella herself donning her latest treats soon. Until then, you'll just have to love the look of her reversible bib and burpies on this cute and cuddly teddy bear...
